What Makes Your Home Hard to Sell?
There are many things that might make your home harder to sell. While these things may be a home run for some potential buyers, they can make others want to run for the hills.
-
A central location
Some people will love having stores and restaurants just outside their door, but other much prefer a quieter lifestyle. Additionally, homes on busy streets tend to have less value.
-
Proximity to a school
While this may be a dream for buyers with a family, it can be a nightmare for others. For people without children, the idea of children coming and going right by their front lawn may not be something they want. In addition to the children, having a school close by means having school buses and parent’s cars dropping off and picking up children during most of the year.
-
The size of your yard
If your yard is too big or too small, it can be polarizing. Too big of a yard can scare off people who don’t want to deal with maintaining a yard. Too small of a yard can keep people away who want to move into a place with a large yard for entertaining.
-
A swimming pool
A swimming pool is a very specific request for homeowners. For someone who wants swimming or doesn’t want the high cost of maintaining a pool, a swimming pool may stop them from purchasing the house.
-
Fancy renovations
Be mindful of the area that you’re in when you do any renovations. Fancy renovations can make buyers believe that the home is harder to maintain. Additionally, keep other homes in mind as you renovate yours. If no other homes in your neighborhood offer the same features that you’re putting in, they could be considered overkill and make it a harder (and more expensive) sell.
-
Bedroom location
This is one of the biggest factors that goes into purchasing a home. Many people do not even want to see homes that have bedrooms on the bottom floor. This is especially important when it’s concerning a master bedroom. If a master bedroom is in an unusual location, such as right off the main living area or kitchen, that can make it a difficult sell.
