Stress can get to us all. There’s nothing better to relax than a spa day. However, not all of us have the money or the time to spend a day at the spa. There’s nothing stopping you from bringing the luxury of the spa into your own home. Here’s how to make the perfect DIY home spa day.
Eliminate disruptions and distractions
One of the first things you do when you go to a spa is put away your phone to rid yourself of technological distractions. Let your family or roommate know your plans so you can enjoy some uninterrupted time. Shut your phone off or put it on silent and enjoy a technology-free day.
Get spa supplies
Make your spa day extra comfortable with a fluffy robe and slippers. Get plenty of water, healthy snacks, and soothing music. Feeling extra indulgent? Add some Prosecco or wine into the mix!
Make detox water
All you have to do to make detox water is add your favorite fruits to your water. Lemon water combinations have been proved to improve your skin, help with digestion, and boost your immune system. Try a lemon, mint, cucumber, and water mix or strawberry, lemon, basil, and water mix. If neither of this interest you, look online or make your own creation! There’s plenty of ideas out there.
Open your pores
Fill a bowl with hot, steamy water. Place your face over the steam and drape a towel over your head. Let the steam waft around your face for five to ten minutes to let your pores open.
Exfoliate!
Exfoliating your face removes dead skin cells and prepares your face for any other treatments that you decide to do.
Use a body scrub
Jump in the shower and apply a body scrub. A body scrub does the same thing as the exfoliant does. It gets rid of the dead skin cells and cleanses your body. You can buy a body scrub or you can make your own.
Take a warm bath
Fill your tub with warm water. Bubbles and salts help to soothe any aching muscles you may have. Take the time you’re in the bath to apply a face mask and/or hair mask. A hair mask will help rehydrate your hair and restore your hair’s shine. A face mask will get the opportunity to really sink into your skin while in the bath so you get the optimal result! After you’re done with your bath, rinse off your hair and face mask.
Take care of your hands and feet
For your feet, buff your heels and any calluses with a foot file. Afterwards, soak your feet in warm water. If you’d like, you can apply a foot scrub to get rid of any dry skin. Use a cuticle pusher to push your cuticles back. Trim your nails and file them. Finish off by applying nail polish.
For your hands, use a scrub to soften up your hands. You can use any body scrub that you have leftover. Rinse off the scrub and apply some cuticle oil to your cuticles and push them back. Trim your nails, file them into whatever shape you’d like and finish up with nail polish.
This is by no means an exhaustive list. There are so many things that you can do for an at-home spa day. Find what works best for you and set off for relaxation.
