Feng Shui
Feng shui is a practice based on the idea that the home is a mirror of what is happening inside us. It is an ancient Chinese art that developed over 3,000 years ago. To utilize feng shui in your room, carefully consider what you’re bringing into your home, how you are arranging your rooms, and how you maintain your home. Everything has energy, even inanimate objects. Feng shui helps guide that energy throughout the home.
Steps to feng shui your home
There are many ways to feng shui your home. Here are a few to get you started:
-
Clutter
Getting rid of clutter is an essential step in creating a harmonious feng shui energy in your home. While clearing clutter may be both energy and time consuming, it will help lighten your home. Get rid of anything you haven’t used or don’t like anymore.
-
Air and light
Air and light are important for creating good energy in your home. To introduce air into your home, keep windows open often, use an air purifier, or decorate your home with air-purifying plants. To introduce light into your home, try to get as much natural light as possible. Additionally, you may want to consider using full-spectrum lights.

-
Seating
In addition to general home styling requirements, feng shui also has specific directions on how each room of your home should be styled. In general, a couch should be against a solid wall. The wall should be farthest from the entry, with a clear view of the door. If you don’t have a wall, place a console behind the couch to feel more secure. In addition, you should place a mirror opposite the sofa so you can see what is behind you.
While there is no direct formula for how close seating should be, there are some guidelines. Seating should be close, but not jammed together. Each seat should also have a surface where a drink or a book can be rested.
-
Bedroom
The bedroom is one of the most important rooms, as it is deeply connected to your health. As such, you should be mindful of the energy in your room. Make sure to turn off your phone at night or keep it in another room. In addition, you shouldn’t keep a laptop or a computer near the bed. Try to stop looking at your computer or phone an hour before bed.
Keep lighting in your room soft. However, if you read in bed, you should have focused lights on your nightstand.
As we mentioned before, everything, even inanimate objects, has energy. For that reason, try not to store anything under the bed.
