Deep Clean Your Bathroom
Every room gets dirty, especially the bathroom. Most of us hate to clean the bathroom, and unfortunately, it needs to be done. Here’s how to deep-clean your bathroom to get it all sparkly clean.
Clear off surfaces
First things first, clear everything off your counters and put away any toiletries. This includes unplugging any appliances and storing them in cabinets. Spray down your counter with an all-purpose cleaner and spray glass cleaner on the mirror.
Shower
Start from the top. Pour white vinegar, enough to fully submerge the showerhead nozzle, and tie it in place to soak overnight. In the morning, remove it and run the water to rinse.
For your shower curtains and liners, throw them into the washing machine on a spin cycle with old towels. The towels act as a scrubber to help get rid of any soap scum or mildew. Re-hang the curtains to dry.
Make a paste of distilled white vinegar and baking soda to clean your shower door. Let the mixture sit for an hour before rubbing it off with a microfiber cloth.
If you have a bathtub in your bathroom, it is less of an issue. A bathtub only needs to be scrubbed down about once a week to keep it clean.
Tiles and walls
Spray the tile and walls with an all-purpose cleaner. Turn on your shower, cranking the hot water, and allow steam to build. This should only take about five minutes. Afterwards, shut off the water and the door and let the steam and the cleaner mix for about twenty minutes. Then, wipe down all surfaces with a cloth. Use a clean, microfiber mop to get hard-to-reach spots.
Grout
Dip a grout brush in bleach and scrub at any discolored areas. Then, rinse the area well. Make sure when cleaning the grout, you keep the room well-ventilated. Seal grout every six months to prevent moisture and grime from building up.
Toilet
Pour a cup of baking soda into the bowl and let it sit for a few minutes. Then, use a toilet brush and flush to get rid of spots in the bowl.
Now, it’s time to clean the toilet itself. Use disposable disinfecting wipes or an all-purpose cleaner to clean the seat, tank, and flusher.
Sink
Pour baking soda or white vinegar down the drain and flush it down with hot water. Use a disposable disinfecting wipe to wipe down the faucet and handles. The sink is one of the most important areas to clean in the bathroom, as it has the highest bacteria count of anything in the bathroom.
Ventilation fan
Before you start cleaning the ventilation fan, flip the circuit breaker. Then, remove the cover and soak it in a warm water and dish soap mixture. Use your vacuum’s nozzle attachment to remove any stuck-on dirt from the fan blades. Then, wipe down with a damp cloth. Remove the dust from the motor. When it’s completely dry, replace the cover.
Hand towels
If your washing machine has one, use a sanitizing setting while cleaning your hand towels. If not, bleach the towels. Hand towels can obtain a lot of bacteria as they are used by many and they trap moisture. Make sure to hang towels on a bar, rather than hanging them from a hook, as mold can form this way.
